Sugars and sweeteners in Lula
Read the sugars line and the ingredients list together. They answer different questions about an electrolyte powder.
The sugars line reports a quantity. The ingredients list identifies what is in the product, including sweeteners. Check both on your current pack, and keep the serving size visible when comparing products.
- Compare the same units.
- Do not treat carbohydrate and sugars as interchangeable.
- Check whether a figure describes dry powder or a prepared drink.
Amount and ingredients are different questions
A sugars figure does not tell you which sweetener is used. An ingredient list does not replace the nutrition panel. Read them side by side, then check the serving size and preparation instructions.
Keep the basis visible
A figure per scoop cannot be compared directly with a figure per 100 g or per bottle. Write down the pack size, serving size and the volume of water specified by the maker. Do not change the recommended dose to make a comparison look better.
Use the current pack and the applicable nutrition-claims conditions for any specific claim.
A comparison you can check
Use our label-comparison guide to record each source, date and serving basis. Missing information stays missing; it is not a zero.
Published by the Lula team. Product comparisons require current source checks.
Check the sweetener
Look for the named sweetener in the ingredients list on your current pack. If you prefer an unsweetened or unflavoured drink, use those as separate selection criteria. A sweetened peach-flavoured powder may not match that preference.
Check energy separately
Read the energy figure alongside its unit and serving basis. A sugars value alone does not establish the energy content of a product.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Does a sugars figure identify the sweetener?
No. Check the ingredients list for the sweetener and the nutrition panel for the sugars quantity.
How do I compare two labels?
Use the same basis: per serving, per 100 g or per prepared volume. Keep the source and date with each figure.
What if I avoid sweeteners?
Choose using the full ingredients list. An unsweetened product is a different preference from a flavoured, sweetened powder.
Can I use carbohydrate as the sugars figure?
No. Record sugars separately. If it is not disclosed, mark it unavailable.
Does a low sugars value mean zero energy?
No. Read the energy figure on the nutrition panel.
Should I change the dilution for a comparison?
Use the maker’s preparation instructions and report the volume. Do not alter the dose to improve a comparison.
Where should I check the current formula?
Start with your current pack and ask the seller about any discrepancy between it and the website.
