Flavoured electrolytes, explained
Electrolyte drinks are built around sodium and other minerals, and on their own those taste salty and flat. Flavour is what makes a daily habit possible. Here is what UK brands sell, what sweetens them and how to pick one.
Lemon or lime, and berry flavours, are the most common across the UK ranges we checked: each appears in 9 of 12 ranges. Lula comes in one flavour, Natural Peach, sweetened with stevia, with no added sugar.
- Many flavoured electrolytes use a non-sugar sweetener such as sucralose, stevia or erythritol. Some use sugar or dextrose.
- The more sodium a drink has, the more you taste the salt, so flavour and serving water matter.
Why electrolyte drinks are flavoured
Sodium is the main mineral in most electrolyte drinks, and at 1,000 mg a serving you can taste it. Brands balance the salt with three things: a flavour, a little acidity (often citric acid) and a sweetener. Get the balance wrong and a drink tastes like seawater or like squash. Serving it ice-cold and in enough water also softens the salt.
What sweetens a flavoured electrolyte
Read the ingredients list, not the front of the pack. On the labels we checked on 22 October 2026:
- Sucralose: SiS Go Hydro Berry tablets, Applied Nutrition Vimto tablets, XO Fitness sachets (Superdrug product pages).
- Stevia: Lula (stevia only, Rebaudioside A 97%). Hydrava lists erythritol and steviol glycosides (Hydrava product page).
- Sugar and dextrose: Liquid I.V. UK Lemon Lime sticks (Superdrug product page).
If you want to avoid a particular sweetener, the ingredients list is the only reliable place to check. For sugar, see our guide to electrolytes with no added sugar.

The most common flavours, and the rare ones
Citrus (lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit) and berry flavours dominate. Watermelon and mango turn up often. Peach is rare: in the ranges above it appears once, as part of a peach and pineapple sachet. Lula Natural Peach is one of the few peach electrolytes on this list.
Unflavoured electrolytes
Some people want plain minerals to add to water, food or other drinks. Unflavoured powders, drops and salts are sold for that, and Healf runs a whole unflavoured collection. Lula is flavoured with natural peach and stevia.
Choosing
How to choose a flavour
Start with sodium
Higher sodium means a saltier base. Most brands pair it with a fruit flavour and a little acidity, such as citric acid.
Check the sweetener
Read the ingredients, not the front of the pack.
Use enough water and serve it cold
Many brands give a range; colder and more dilute usually tastes cleaner.
Try a single serving first
If a brand sells one, it is an easy way to try a flavour.
Natural Peach
Natural peach flavour and real peach fruit powder, with a clean, salty finish. Each 6.5 g scoop has 1,000 mg sodium, 250 mg potassium, 75 mg magnesium, 50 mg calcium and 1.2 g amino acids (500 mg taurine, 450 mg glycine, 250 mg alanine). No added sugar: 0.17 g of sugars per scoop, sweetened with stevia. Vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, no caffeine, made in the UK.
Best ice-cold: one scoop in 750 ml to 1 litre (the label serve is 500 ml).

Questions, answered
What is the most popular electrolyte flavour in the UK?
No public sales data says so. Across the 12 UK ranges we checked on 22 October 2026, lemon or lime, and berry flavours were the most common, each in 9 ranges.
Do flavoured electrolytes contain sugar?
Some do and some do not. Check "of which sugars" on the nutrition panel and the ingredients for sugar or dextrose. Lula has no added sugar: 0.17 g of sugars per scoop, sweetened with stevia.
What flavours does Lula come in?
Natural Peach.
Are unflavoured electrolytes better?
Neither is better. Unflavoured suits people who add minerals to food or other drinks; flavoured suits people who drink it on its own.
Why do some electrolyte drinks taste salty?
Sodium. The more sodium per serving, the more you taste it. Lula balances its 1,000 mg sodium with natural peach, a little citric acid and stevia, and tastes best ice-cold.
Does Lula have artificial colours?
No. There are no colours in Lula's ingredients list.
